Bass Studio

Page Content

At the Southern Miss Double Bass Studio, you will experience the highest standards of performance in both classical and jazz areas. Bass lessons are weekly (50 minutes) individual sessions, and you are expected to work on technical exercises, etudes, excerpts, and solos. Dr. Machado's primary objective is to adequately prepare you to a successful professional career by developing technical facility and artistic excellence.

In the past 12 years, the Southern Miss Bass Studio hosted important pedagogues and performers in workshops, residencies and the renowned Bass Symposium. Most notably, bass students had the opportunity to work with guest artists François Rabbath, Frank Proto, Catalin Rotaru, Gabriele Ragghianti, Thierry Barbé, Craig Butterfield, Yung-chiao Wei, Jeff Bradetich, Paul Ellison, Michael Cameron, Miloslav Hrdlik, John Pena, Oscar Stagnaro, and Paulo Gomes.
If you are a prospective student, please browse the information posted online and be sure to register for an audition day.  Scholarships and assistantships are available but are highly competitive. Apply before December 1 to have a better chance of receiving some financial assistance. Please feel free to contact Dr. Machado, if you have any questions.
