Philosophy and Religion Professor/Chair Wins Award

Dr. David M. Holley, professor of philosophy and chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at The University of Southern Mississippi, has won the Excellence in Philosophy of Religion Prize for 2010.
His article “Treating God's Existence: An Explanatory Hypothesis” was judged by the selection panel to be one of the best three articles in philosophy of religion published during 2010. The article appeared in the fall 2010 issue of American Philosophical Quarterly.
The top three articles were selected from 44 articles nominated for the prize. The prize is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and carries with it a stipend of $2,000.
In addition to the article, Holley also published a book on a central issue in philosophy of religion during 2010. The book, “Meaning and Mystery: What It Means to Believe in God,” was published by Wiley-Blackwell.
