Southern Miss College of Business Sponsoring Ethics Week March 5-8

The University of Southern Mississippi's College of Business aims to highlight the importance of integrity in decision making as part of Ethics Week, scheduled for March 5-8 on the Hattiesburg campus.
The agenda will feature speakers from around the Southern Miss campus discussing topics such as social media presence, professional etiquette and classroom civility, among others. The week will kick off on Monday, March 5 with a panel discussion titled: “Social Networking & Your Online Image.”
“We highly stress the development of ethical decision making skills for our students in the College of Business,” said Marie Baker, academic advisor & recruitment and retention coordinator. “Ethics are not only important to business people, but people in any kind of work environment. Ethical decisions are made in many different areas each day and it is important that people have a wealth of knowledge on this issue.”
Baker notes that the Southern Miss College of Business sponsors programs such as this in an effort to supply students with the tools necessary to succeed in life after college.
“One must have a strong background in ethical decision making in order to be successful and productive,” said Baker. “This training is designed to help them avoid situations where their personal ethics are called into question, or, if they are presented a dilemma, they understand the positive and negative consequences of their decisions.”
The Ethics Week schedule of events:
- March 5– Panel Discussion: “Social Networking & Your Online Image.” Speakers: Dr. David Davies, Dr. Jamye Foster, Dr. Bret Becton, Dr. Amy Yeend. Time: 1 p.m. Location: Joseph Greene Hall Room 115
- March 6– “Developing Your Personal Brand.” Speaker: Dr. Gary Futrell. Time: 2:30 p.m. Location: Joseph Greene Hall Room 115
- March 7– “Shortcuts to Academic Integrity.” Speaker: Dr. Eddie Holloway. Time: 1 p.m. Location: Joseph Greene Hall Room 218.
- March 8– Lunch & Learn: “Agribusiness, Genetically Modified Crops and Consumer's Right to Know.” Speaker: Dr. Samuel Bruton. Time: 12:30 p.m. Location: Joseph Greene Hall Room 218
