The University of Southern Mississippi's College Panhellenic Council (CPC) is the recipient of the National Panhellenic Conference's (NPC) Excellence Award for 2012-2013. Southern Miss is one of only 14 College Panhellenics in the country to earn the honor.

NPC is one of the nation's largest organizations advocating for women and is the umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities present on more than 600 college campuses.

“NPC received scores of nominations to recognize the outstanding work and achievements of undergraduate sorority women working together,” said Nicki Meneley, executive director of the conference. “These awards are given to those who are following the exemplary standards of Panhellenic women.”

College Panhellenic organizations are cooperatives of all sororities at an institution of higher learning. The NPC's Award of Excellence is given based on scoring of standards in the areas recruitment; Panhellenic structure; communication with the NPC area advisor; judicial procedures; Panhellenic programming; academics; and Panhellenic community impact and relations.

“We're very proud to be one of the 14 councils chosen for this award,” said Serena Williams, a senior from Hattiesburg who serves as president of Southern Miss' CPC. “It shows that each of our vice presidents went above and beyond the call of duty in their area (standards judged for the award), and that the Greek Life experience at Southern Miss is one of the best in the nation.”

The NPC has recognized student-managed College Panhellenics in the United States and Canada with top honors for more than 50 years.

“This award is a testament to the work of our collegiate women, the high standards they have and their commitment to growth and excellence,” said Wynde Fitts, associate dean of students at Southern Miss.
