The University of Southern Mississippi's Dr. Kimberly Ward, assistant professor and audiology clinic coordinator in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, recently attended the 2017 Leadership Academy of the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD).

The CAPCSD Leadership Program is designed for individuals involved in academic programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders who are considering academic leadership positions or are newly engaged in academic leadership positions, and its mission, in part, is to promote the professional development of these constituents.

“This was a rare and valuable experience for Dr. Ward,” said Dr. Edward Goshorn, chair of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. “The academy focuses on growing academic leaders in our field, and Southern Miss is fortunate to have had Dr. Ward represent us at this prestigious event.”

This year's third annual CAPCSD Leadership Academy, “Best Practices in Academic Leadership,” covered topics such as foundations of leadership, time management, stress management, collegiality and team building, leading changes and goal setting/planning for the future.

“I consider the 2017 CAPCSD Leadership Academy to be a highly invaluable experience,” said Dr. Ward. “The academic leadership training as well as the high quality of networking among current and future academic leaders were outstanding.”
