College of Business students at The University of Southern Mississippi received special training in safety and security measures during a visit by Landmark Event Services. The students were trained in various security measures such as fire safety, crowd control, and bag check and were also taken through an official screening process for new workers.

Following a series of educational lectures on the material, students were given the opportunity to become certified by taking and passing two exams. With this certification, the students will travel with the University's Sport Management department to several New Orleans Saints home football games throughout the season to act as special event security workers.

“This event allows students the opportunity to work at a professional sporting event while gaining practical experience in sport management. Students that passed the exam are now licensed to work as an unarmed private security officer in the state of Louisiana through the Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners,” said Dr. Brandon Allen, assistant teaching professor in the Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Sport Management at USM.

This training provides students an opportunity to add credentials to their resume, experience a professional sporting event, network with industry professionals, and collaborate/build relationship with their peers.
