USM Professor Named Prestigious American Chemical Society Fellow

For her extensive contributions to the scientific community, Dr. Sarah E. Morgan, polymer science and engineering professor at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been named an American Chemical Society Fellow (Class of 2020).

Selection as an ACS Fellow is based on documented excellence and leadership in two important areas: (1) science, the profession, education, and/or management, and (2) volunteer service in the ACS community.

Morgan, who joined the USM faculty in 2002, serves as Associate Director in the School of Polymer Science and Engineering.

“When I started my academic career I never imagined being named an ACS Fellow. I am humbled to receive this recognition by The American Chemical Society,” said Morgan. “I am proud to represent the school and the University and bring global awareness of the strength of our research, education, and service to the profession. Our students are the best of the best.”

The purpose of the ACS Fellows Program, one component of the broader ACS Awards Program, is to recognize and honor members of the American Chemical Society for their outstanding achievements in and contributions to the science and the profession and for their equally exemplary service to the Society.

Morgan has provided countless hours in service to the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry, including service as Past Chair, Chair, Chair-Elect, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Symposium/Workshop Organizer.

“The American Chemical Society is one of the largest scientific organizations in the world, with over 150,000 members. Dr. Morgan’s selection as an ACS Fellow is clear recognition that both her scientific work and service to ACS are at the very top of the profession,” said Dr. Chris Winstead, Dean of USM’s College of Arts and Sciences.
