Eagle F1rst

Southern Miss defines first-generation as neither parent or guardian completed a 4-year degree from a college or university in the United States. Eagle F1rst is a first-generation student organization that focuses on providing students with connections, resources and support to successfully navigate the college experience. The vision of the organization is to cultivate leadership skills among students who share similar ideas and experiences. 

Meet Our Executive Team

- Sartora Richardson-Wasp


Sartora Richardson-Wasp is a junior Child & Family Science major from Mobile, Alabama. She is excited to be President of Eagle F1rst to help increase more student body participation in the organization.

Amaris Hodge


Amaris Hodge is a sophomore Media & Entertainment Arts major from Jackson, Mississippi. As Vice-President, Amaris is most excited about developing his leadership skills while connecting with more first-generation students.  

Allyiah Johnson


Allyiah Johnson is a sophomore Kinesiotherapy major from Memphis, Tennessee. As Secretary of Eagle F1rst, Allyiah is most excited about keeping the organization members informed to improve the organization’s programs. 

Phillip “Phil” Bertrand


Phillip “Phil” Bertrand is a junior Sports Management major from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is excited about being treasurer to oversee and manage the organization’s financial affairs while also tapping into his creative side to host cool events.

Ari’Anna Magee


Ari’Anna Magee is the Coordinator for First Year Programs in The Center for Student Success and serves as the advisor for Eagle F1rst. As Advisor, Ari’Anna is passionate about developing students into tomorrow’s best and brightest leaders while ensuring students have a quality collegiate experience.

Ja’Len Husband


Ja’Len Husband is the First Year Programs Graduate Assistant in The Center for Student Success and serves as co-advisor for Eagle F1rst. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in Health Policy and Administration and a minor in Business Foundations. As co-advisor, Ja’Len is most passionate about sharing and interacting with first-generation students as he is also a first-generation graduate student who understands the different paths students take to navigate college.
