🌍 Get Ready for Earth Week 2026! 🌿
Celebrate Earth Week with the Southern Miss Office of Sustainability from April 20th to April 24th! Join us for a week full of engaging events focused on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Campus and community organizations will come together to share ideas, host activities, and inspire positive change.

All events are open to the USM and Hattiesburg communities — everyone is welcome! Plus, participants will have opportunities to win prizes from Moore’s Bike Shop, Papa John’s Pizza, and T-Bones.

🌟 Earth Week 2026 Schedule

🌎 Saturday, April 18 – Parking Garage Campus Clean Up Day- Eagle Hub Event
Kick off Earth Week early and join students as they host a campus cleanup!! Help give back to campus while promoting sustainability. Grabbers, gloves, and bags will be provided—just bring your willingness to make a difference!

 
♻️ Monday, April 20 – Caught Green-Handed
Be on the lookout! If you’re “caught” recycling or practicing sustainable behaviors, you could win a swag bag and a coupon to Moore’s Bike Shop, T-Bones, or Papa John’s!

 
🌎 Tuesday, April 21 – Campus Cleanup (Innova Preparatory School)
Join Innova Preparatory School for a campus cleanup in honor of Earth Day. Let’s work together to keep our campus clean and green! Supplies will be provided.

 
🌊 Wednesday, April 22 – Earth Day River Cleanup (10 AM – 2 PM)
Celebrate Earth Day at Bouie Lakes with Southern Prohibition Brewing (SoPro), Piney Woods Conservation Group, Pinebelt Blueways, and Kick Glass Hburg. Participate in a land and water-based cleanup, receive a River Crew 2026 t-shirt, and enjoy lunch from Nellie’s Chicken & Daiquiris (plus adult beverages for those 21+). ♻️Thursday, April 23rd - Learn the Label (11 AM – 2 PM) Shoemaker Square, Join us for a hands-on session on how to recycle the right way! Learn key terms like Wishcycling and Precycling, understand the differences in plastics, and find out what can and can’t be recycled on campus. Let’s work together to build better habits and a greener campus! 🌱

 
♻️ Friday, April 24 – USM Shred Event (10 AM – 2 PM, Physical Plant)
Safely dispose of sensitive documents and old electronics at our free shredding and recycling event. Open to the USM and Hattiesburg communities. First-come, first-served until the truck is full!

 
🌳 Friday, April 24 – Arbor Day Celebration (10 am, Lake Byron) 
Join as we celebrate Arbor Day and the importance of trees in creating a healthier, more sustainable environment by planting trees on the East of Lake Byron.
