Alan Thompson, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Dr. Alan Thompson joined the USM Criminal Justice faculty in 2000. Since that time he has published several scholarly books and articles focusing on legal and practical issues in law enforcement, courts and corrections. He has secured and directed multiple competitively funded research projects in excess of $1.5 million and has consulted with federal agencies such as the FBI Police Futures Working Group, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, and the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics. Dr. Thompson previously served as Director of the Mississippi Statistical Analysis Center and is the State Reporting Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Justice Arrest Related Deaths in Custody Reporting Program. Consistent with this background, his research interests focus on topics related to police psychology and operations. Within the university community, Dr. Thompson serves his professional colleagues as chapter president of the American Association of University Professors.
