TRIO-Student Support Services Program

Student Support Services (SSS) at Southern Miss is a $1.3 million five-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education, Federal TRiO Programs with the mission of providing academic assistance, personal and academic counseling, and individual support to eligible undergraduate students. The primary objectives are to help SSS Scholars maintain good academic standing, persist in college, and graduate from Southern Miss. SSS Scholars work with professional staff, graduate assistants, and peer mentors to identify academic and personal goals and strategies needed to achieve academic success. Scholars have exclusive access to individual and group tutoring, educational workshops, and other activities that promote academic success. SSS is dedicated to creating a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating climate that will aid in the holistic development and success of each SSS Scholar. 

Resources offered by the program to SSS Scholars may include:

  • Tutorial Services
  • Academic Coaching, Financial Literacy and Personal Advising
  • Computer Lab Access
  • Supplemental Instruction 
  • Career Exploration
  • Mentoring
  • Student Success Skills Workshops
  • Cultural and Social Activities
In addition, Student Support Services may also provide supplemental grant aid to current first and second year SSS Scholars who are receiving Federal Pell grants.
