TRIO-Student Support Services Program

TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) at Southern Miss is a $1.3 million five-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Federal TRiO Programs. The mission of TRIO-SSS is to provide academic assistance, personal and academic counseling, and individual support to eligible undergraduate students. The primary objectives are to help TRIO-SSS Scholars maintain good academic standing, persist in college, and graduate from Southern Miss. TRIO-SSS Scholars work with professional staff, graduate assistants, and peer mentors to identify academic and personal goals and strategies needed to achieve academic success. TRIO-Scholars have exclusive access to individual and group tutoring, educational workshops, and other activities that promote academic success. TRIO-SSS is dedicated to creating a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating climate that will aid in the holistic development and success of each TRIO-SSS Scholar. 

Resources offered by the program to TRIO-SSS Scholars may include:

  • Tutorial Services
  • Academic Coaching, Financial Literacy and Personal Advising
  • Computer Lab Access
  • Supplemental Instruction 
  • Career Exploration
  • Mentoring
  • Student Success Skills Workshops
  • Cultural and Social Activities
In addition, TRIO-Student Support Services may also provide supplemental grant aid to current first and second year enrolled scholars who are Federal Pell grant recipients.
