Application for Summer Financial Assistance

Page Content

The priority date for summer awarding is April 1st. We must have a completed summer application and an official FAFSA by this date in order to ensure you have aid before summer classes begin. You may be required to pay out of pocket if you do not meet the priority date. The 2023-2024 FAFSA can be completed online here.

A student must be fully admitted to The University of Southern Mississippi, enrolled at least half-time, and seeking a degree from the university to receive most types of federal financial aid. All credit hours taken during the summer session must apply toward a student's program of study.

To apply, student should navigate in SOAR to their student dashboard, select the Summer Application to-do item, and then click Apply Here! The application will be available September 1st and will be reviewed starting March 15th in the order they were received.

Students who have applied for admission to Southern Miss and who need assistance in retrieving their SOAR user ID and password may contact the iTech Help Desk at 601.266.4357.
Students who enroll in Study Abroad programs and in summer school are not eligible to acquire loan refunds until ten (10) days before the summer session begins or ten (10) days before their departure for study abroad, whichever comes later. Students attending Study Abroad and summer school must submit applications for both at the same time.
If the number of hours you indicated on your summer application changes, admission status is updated, or program status is changed, you should notify our office so that we can determine if you still have financial aid eligibility.
