Definition |
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship is named by Congress in honor of the late Senator Barry Goldwater. It is a highly competitive scholarship and considered one of the most prestigious undergraduate awards in STEM in the United States. More specifically, it is for students wanting to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. |

What the Award Offers |
Cost of tuition, fees, books, and room/board (minus the amount of support received through other sources), up to a maximum of $7,500 per full academic year (for remaining undergraduate 1-4 semesters, as eligible). |

Who Should Apply |
Sophomores or juniors who plan to make significant contributions in STEM-related research. Goldwater defines sophomore and junior by the following definition: Sophomores have three to four semesters left of full-time undergraduate study beginning the fall a year after the application is completed and juniors have one to two semesters left of full-time undergraduate study beginning the fall a year after the application is completed.

GPA Requirement: Focuses on intellectual merit and broader impacts. Citizenship Status: Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. Field: Chemistry; Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering; Engineering; Geosciences; Life Sciences; Materials Research; Mathematical Sciences; Physics and Astronomy; Psychology; Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; STEM Education and Learning Research. |
