Picking the Right Type of Appointment
Page Content
We offer different kinds of appointments for different goals:
Planning Session*
If you’re brainstorming and planning, schedule a Planning Session.
A typical planning session will involve:
- Discussing assignment specifics with a tutor
- Developing a timeline to make sure you finish before the assignment is due
- Setting up additional Writing Center appointments as needed
- Discussing first steps of the work
Accountability Appointment*
If you’re drafting and getting work done, schedule an Accountability Appointment.
A typical accountability appointment will involve:
- In the first five minutes, you'll discuss your writing goals for the session with your tutor
- You will spend the bulk of time working on your own as your tutor works beside you
- If you have any questions or need help getting "unstuck," the tutor will help you out
- In the last minutes, you'll talk about the progress you made and plan next steps
Feedback Session
If you’re working on revision and polishing, schedule a Feedback Session.
A typical feedback session will involve:
- You will provide the written work you've completed to the session or upload it to your appointment slot before hand
- The tutor will spend the first five minutes getting a sense of what you want to achieve in the session and set reasonable expectations for the time
- From there, the tutor will review the document with you, looking for strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement
- The goal is to develop your skills as you work together
- At the end of the session, you'll review what got done.
* Please note: Planning Sessions and Accountability Appointments cannot be held using our asynchronous E-Tutoring modality. These kinds of session can only be done face-to-face or through an online, streaming appointment. |
