The Writing Center is located in Cook Library, Room 112, between Starbucks and the Speaking Center.

We are open:

Sunday 3–6 p.m.
Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.–7 p.m.
Friday 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

To make an appointment, call 601.266.4821, stop by the center, email writingcenterFREEMississippi%C2%A0or schedule online at usm.mywconline.com.

Step 1

  • Visit usm.mywconline.com
  • Under "Available Schedules," select the Writing Center.
  • Sign in using wStudentID#@usm.edu and your Campus ID (SOAR) password. 
    If you don't already have a WC Online account, you will be directed to a registration form which you must complete before you are able to view the schedule and make appointments.

Step 2

  • Choose a date and time by clicking on a white (available) appointment slot.
  • Complete the appointment form and select "Create Appointment.”
  • Both face-to-face and online appointments are available. If you wish to make an online appointment, you must choose "Yes" to the "Meet Online?" question on the form. 

Step 3

  • For in-person appointments: Simply come to the Writing Center on the day and time of your appointment and check in at the front desk.
  • For online appointments: On the day and time of your appointment, sign in to usm.mywconline.com.
    • Scroll to the day and time you reserved to find your appointment on the scheduler. 
    • Click on the appointment box to open the appointment form, then click the red "Start or Join Online Consultation" link. This link will open a Zoom meeting with your tutor.
  • For E-Tutoring appointments: Sign and in and make a new appointment using the E-Tutoring option on the appointment form.
    • Upload the document you wish to receive feedback on using the “File Attachments” tool near the bottom of the form. A file attachment is required in order to save your appointment.
    • Writing Center staff will review your document at the scheduled appointment time and send you feedback shortly after.
    • You will receive an email notification when the response is available. Due to time constraints, we are only available to review one document per appointment.
    •  Writing Center staff can only review your document for the time allotted for the appointment. For example, if you schedule a 30-minute appointment for a twenty-page document, the tutor may only be able to provide feedback on ten pages.
    • If a tutor is not able to provide feedback on the entirety of your document, please schedule another appointment.
  • NOTE: You need to disable your pop-up blocker or allow pop-ups from usm.mywconline.com for the appointment windows and online tutoring module to function properly.
