American Chemical Society
The mission of ACS is to cultivate a positive environment and community in which STEM and non-STEM students alike can learn more about chemistry and find opportunities to get involved in our community. With the reputation of the physical sciences as being intimidating and difficult, our priority is to make chemistry more accessible and exciting to USM students by curating events that are designed to help educate as much as entertain. Through our STEM outreach events, we also work with local elementary schools to help instill an interest in chemistry at a young age, with the hope of helping encourage the next generation of scientists. By participating in ACS, students are able to not only participate in academic-centered events like study sessions, but are also better equipped to find involvement opportunities both within and outside USM while learning more about a career in the sciences.
Membership Requirements
- A declared major in chemistry or biochemistry in good standing with the academic requirements of the School of MANS and the University.
- Willingness to engage with peers to champion the benefit of chemistry in society through community service.
- Positive attitude to facilitate personal growth as a chemist and the Student Chapter
as an organization for chemistry majors at USM.

Society of Physics Students
We are a student organization that provides community outreach and information of the many real world principles of physics. We primarily do outreach with high school and middle school children and provide them with real world demonstrations of how the things that they are learning in physics class can apply in their day to day. We also provide insight and advice on those interested in physics and other related STEM fields as a career path and many other higher education opportunities.

Kappa Mu Epsilon Math Honor Society
Kappa Mu Epsilon is a national mathematics honor society, promoting interest in mathematics among undergraduate students. KME Chapter MS Gamma at The University of Southern Mississippi was chartered in 1949. Kappa Mu Epsilon recognizes mathematics students for their efforts and outstanding achievement in the study of mathematics at the undergraduate level. It helps undergraduate students realize the important role that mathematics has played in the development of civilization. It provides opportunities for undergraduate students to present and publish their original work in mathematics and in closely related fields where mathematics is applied. Members of KME are eligible to apply for Kappa Mu Epsilon scholarships, participate in international conventions, and submit original work for publication and writing awards.
