Orientation for Online Students
Advisement and Course Enrollment
Page Content
Orientation is required for all new, degree-seeking students who are enrolling in a fully online academic program. Registering for Orientation is the official way to confirm your intent to enroll at Southern Miss. Once we see that you’re registered, the University begins the process of posting any transfer credits you may have earned and alerts your academic program that you are ready for advisement and course enrollment.
Your academic area will reach out to you first to begin a dialogue about a proposed class schedule and degree plan. You should monitor your Southern Miss email account for messages from your advisor, and you should reply as quickly as possible. You should also log in to SOAR and complete your Academic and Financial Agreement to lift the registration hold on your account.
Academic advisement for the 2026 summer and fall semesters will begin in April.
Note: It is possible that your SOAR Dashboard will not display the name or contact information for your advisor prior to the start of the fall semester. Please be assured that once you have registered for Online Orientation, your advisor will be aware that you need to be contacted for advisement and course enrollment.
