The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applications for the EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program in Polymer Research.

This NSF funded fellowship opportunity supports Ph.D. students in the School of Polymer Science and Engineering (SPSE), providing comprehensive training in polymer chemistry, materials science, and engineering. Fellows will conduct cutting-edge research in areas such as sustainable materials, advanced composites, biomedical polymers, and electronic applications. The program offers access to world-class facilities, strong faculty mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development support. Ideal applicants will have a strong academic background, research experience in related fields, and a passion for scientific innovation and community impact. 

$37,000 / Year Stipend

 

The EGFP Fellows receive a generous  stipend for three years and are eligible for continued funding

Full Tuition Waiver

 

All EGFP Fellows receive a full tuition scholarship in addition to the stipend

Eligibility Requirements

 

Available to any NSF GRFP Honorable Mention students who apply to the Polymer Science and Engineering doctoral program

Application Requirements and Process

Applicants should possess a strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in polymer science and engineering, supported by prior research experience in polymers, materials science, chemistry, or related areas. Ideal candidates will have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate interests for interdisciplinary collaboration across scientific fields as well as community engagement.  Additionally, the applicant must:

• Be named a GRFP honorable mention no more than three calendar years prior to this application.
• Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident.
• Be enrolled or intend to enroll full-time in the polymer science and engineering doctoral program a the University of Southern Mississippi at the start of the fellowship.
• Have not previously accepted a GRFP or EGFP Fellowship.
• Not a current NSF employee.
• Complete applications through ETAP AND the graduate school at Southern Mississippi.
