Sexual Misconduct Investigative Team (SMIT)

The Sexual Misconduct Investigative Team (SMIT) is comprised of faculty and staff from the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast Campuses. SMIT is the pool from which we will create panels of three members during the Title IX investigation process. The panel's role is to investigate complaints of sexual misconduct to determine whether the Responding Party violated the University's policy based on the preponderance of the evidence. If there is a policy violation, the panel will recommend appropriate sanctions, however the Sanctioning Official ultimately determines sanctions.

To better understand the role of SMIT, please review the University's Procedures listed below or contact the Title IX Office directly.
