Who We Are
Moffitt Health Center is a multi-service health care facility located on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi. All currently enrolled students and employees at Southern Miss are eligible to receive the services we provide. We are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC) and have served the university community for more than 40 years.
Under the direction of Melissa Roberts, M.D., our qualified staff includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered nurses with a student-focused mission to provide quality, cost-effective comprehensive health care, and educational services to the university community.

Vaccination Against COVID-19
Who Is Eligible for Vaccination
- Adults aged 65 and older.
- Anyone 16 to 64 years old with a chronic health condition that may put them at higher
risk from COVID-19. (18 or older at MSDH drive-through sites.) Qualifying health conditions:
- Chronic kidney disease
- COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Down Syndrome
- Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
- Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
- Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but less than 40 kg/m2)
- Severe Obesity (BMI 40 kg/m2 or higher)
- Sickle cell disease
- Or other medical conditions as determined by your medical provider
- Long-term care facility residents and staff.
- Healthcare personnel and EMT/paramedics, paid or unpaid, in any setting where they may be exposed directly or indirectly to COVID-19 patients or COVID-19 infectious materials.
Availability at MHC
Our team here at Moffitt Health Center is excited to see the plan leadership with the Mississippi State Department of Health has set fourth for those in our state.
At this time, we are currently not able to offer the vaccine series. In the meantime, we encourage those interested and who fall within eligible groups, to utilize the drive thru vaccination sites provided by the MSDH and the National Guard.
As things develop and change in regard to vaccine access at our clinic, we will be sure to share updates with the campus community. Thank you for doing your part to keep yourself and others protected and well during this time!

Appointments Now Required
If you would like to make a same-day appointment, please give us a call or visit our patient portal. Appointments are not required for immunizations & allergy shots.
Telemedicine Appointments Available
Telemedicine allows health care professionals to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients by a telephone call and is available for all medication refills and a wide variety of health services including, but not limited to: ADHD, mental health, birth control, allergies, medication questions, medication changes, general questions, and more.
COVID-19 Testing Available
We offer COVID-19 testing via the standard PCR swab, a rapid swab, and antibody blood test.
Rapid Surveillance Testing is available for patients with NO symptoms and NO close contact exposure.

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) – is a federal law that requires the Southern Miss Student Health Services to protect your health information and to keep everything confidential.
You will be given a copy of our notice of privacy practices and required to sign this form upon your first visit.
You as a patient have rights and responsibilities. A copy of these rights and responsibilities can be found in each patient room.
Health is Golden is a campaign to create a culture of wellness at The University of Southern Mississippi. This campaign aims to provide students, faculty, and staff with the education and resources to accomplish that goal through programming, events, presentations, outreach, and other activities. Topics cover all areas of wellness, including but not limited to, fitness, nutrition, sexual health, mental health, alcohol and drugs, sun safety, and other wellness related topics. Primary departments involved in the Health is Golden initiative include the Office of Health Promotion at Moffitt Health Center and Campus Recreation, housed in the Payne Center.
