|PURPOSE||To support students conducting full-time original research or creative activity in collaboration with a faculty mentor during the summer.|
|ELIGIBILITY||All full-time undergraduate students who have not graduated|
Recipients will be provided $4000 to cover living expenses: $2000 on May 15 and $2000 on July 1; if approved, an additional $500 may be received to cover equipment, supplies, and travel.
The faculty mentor will receive $500.
|SUPPORTED ACTIVITIES AND LIMITATIONS||
The research or creative activity must be undertaken on a full-time basis for at least eight weeks (not necessarily consecutively) during the summer; no classes nor any outside employment are permitted during the time of funding.
Funding may not be used for language study, established institutional research programs, or study-abroad programs. It may also not be used to pay for internships or participation in volunteer activities.
A 1500-word proposal outlining the project justification, design, and any additional funding is required. A letter of support from the faculty mentor must also be submitted. A panel of at least three faculty members designated by the Center for Undergraduate Research Steering Committee will review applications.
Awardees will be expected to keep a weekly journal delineating their activities as well as submit a two page report outlining the work conducted the September 15 following completion of the proposed research. They must also present the findings of the project at a scholarly setting within one year.
