What is the Symposium?

The Undergraduate Symposium on Research and Creative Activity (UGS) at Southern Miss is an annual conference that showcases the outstanding work of our undergraduate students across campus.

The event is proudly co-hosted by The Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research (DCUR) and the Honors College (HC) and generously supported by UGS benefactor Mr. Donald Drapeau, various entities on campus, and local businesses.

Are you conducting research or have created artistic work?

  • The UGS is the opportunity to share your work with your peers!
  • We hope to see you present or attend the next UGS on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

Why should you present at UGS?

  • You can list this professional presentation on your resume/CV! Presentation or performance experience is highly valued by prospective employers and may give you a competitive advantage for admission to graduate and professional programs, or for securing a job after graduation.
  • You have a chance to win substantial prize money at UGS! Typically, the presenter in first place in a prize category receives $500 and the one in second place $250. The odds of winning a presentation prize are between 1 in 3 and 1 in 4.

Not ready to present but interested in attending?

  • You should attend UGS to experience a professional conference, listen to your peers’ presentations and watch your peers’ amazing creative works.
  • Register as an attendee between March 15 and the posted registration deadline (to be announced) to attend the presentations and the (free!) luncheon and hear the keynote address.
