aasoThe Afro-American Student Organization (AASO) is a university-chartered organization designated to help promote better race relations on campus. As the oldest Black organization and the parent organization of all other Black organizations on campus.

The Afro-American Student Organization at The University of Southern Mississippi promotes academic, social, and cultural wellness for all students who attend the University. In addition, the organization provides educational, social, and cultural activities for Black/African American interests both on and off campus. These activities include social functions, campus orientation for new students, and assistance for members to promote scholarship and group discussions on topics of mutual interest and to encourage and promote better race relations within the University and the community.
