Parent Access to Student Records

Page Content

Parent Access to Student RecordsSouthern Miss fully understands and appreciates the critical role parents and family play in the lives of their students. Parents offer not only emotional but financial support to students throughout their college enrollment and obviously have a vested interest in their students’ success. However, it is very important that parents understand that all information related to the enrollment of students 18 years of age and older is protected by the Family Educational and Privacy Act as amended in 1974 (more commonly known as FERPA).

Students can grant access to parents or any other authorized person to view their student information inside our online student record system, SOAR. This parent portal is view-only access and does not allow parents to perform any activity for their students except to make payments. However, important information such as grades, financial aid and class schedules can be accessed.

Students can grant parent access using their SOAR student accounts by taking the following steps:

  • Log on to SOAR and within SOAR, click the "Manage Guests" menu option.
  • Click the "Add Guest User" option at the top-right of the page.
  • Complete the Terms & Conditions section.
  • Complete the "Add Guest User" section as prompted.
  • Note that permissions can be edited and the ellipses will generate a new password for the guardian.
  • Once activated, parents can log into SOAR using their newly created login and password to view their student’s information.
  • For further assistance related to SOAR parent portal access, contact the Office of the Registrar, located on the first floor of Kennard-Washington Hall, at registrarFREEMississippi or 601.266.5006.
