Independent Leadership Reflections
Page Content
The Southern Miss Leadership Experience certificate program requires two independent leadership reflections. The first is a written book analysis on a leadership topic and the second is a written reflection of a significant leadership experience. The details of each are reviewed below.
Book Analysis
Select and read an approved book from the Leadership and Student Involvement's Leadership
Library. After a close reading of the book, you will complete a reflection report.
Leadership Reflection
To complete the certificate, you must engage in a leadership experience outside of
class and then submit a reflection report on the experience. Not just any experience will work, so be sure to secure approval
from Certificate Directors at leadershipFREEMississippi. Below is a list of potential leadership experiences for this requirement:
- Organizing an initiative or event with others
- Attending an Alternative Spring Break trip
- Serving as president of a student organization
- Participating in Study Abroad
- Performing 2+ hours of service a week with the same agency, minimum total of 20 hours
- Present at a conference with a team
Students are responsible for securing and initiating their own independent leadership experiences. If you have any questions, please send them to leadershipFREEMississippi.
