A year long project investigating the social and environmental impact of sound

Through a series of six lectures, and a museum exhibit in April 2016, we explore how sound is perceived and used in everyday life; the manufacture, recording and consumption of sound in popular culture; and the sociological and historical significance of sound as a means of communication, disruption, isolation and solidarity.

Southern Studies

By integrating a variety of disciplines across the humanities and social sciences—including anthropology, geography, literature, music, political science, and sociology—the Southern Studies Concentration investigates the past, present, and future of the American South and its impact on the United States and the world.

Liberal Studies

Designed with the needs of a wide variety of students in mind, the BLS offers a structured, but flexible, path to a bachelor’s degree, allowing students to choose courses that fit their schedule or can be completed online.
