The office of Orientation and Transition Programs considers parents and family members to be valuable partners in student success. Through the Parent and Family Association, our office offers programs and events that support Southern Miss families in their ability to stay informed and involved as partners in their student's education. Members of the Parent and Family Association are provided monthly e-newsletters, invited to on-campus events, have access to a monthly web series and so much more. The Parent and Family Association membership is FREE, so JOIN TODAY!

Family Hour
Join Parent and Family Programs for monthly virtual office hours! Southern Miss families are welcome to attend Family Hour for conversation, fellowship and answers to frequently asked questions regarding student academic and social success! These drop-in office hours will provide a virtual space for you to ask questions and chat with the Coordinator of Parent & Family Programs, along with members of Orientation & Transition Programs staff, other Southern Miss staff, and connect with fellow Golden Eagle families who may have similar questions.

Monthly E-Newsletter
Members of the Parent and Family Association receive monthly e-newsletters throughout the academic year. This digital newsletter is designed to help families stay connected to Southern Miss and informed regarding resources and activities available to their student on campus and in the Hattiesburg community. The e-newsletter highlights academic deadlines, campus resources, student achievements and engagement opportunities for parents and families.
Parent Access to Student Records
Students can grant access to parents or any other authorized person to view their student information inside our online student record system, SOAR.
Parent and Family Appreciation Week
Parent and Family Appreciation Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate YOU all week. We recognize the important role you play in your student's academic and social success, and we thank you for the support you give your student. Throughout the week, students are provided with fun opportunities to express their appreciation to you. A "thank you" campaign is also hosted via social media utilizing the hashtag #thankUSoMuch. We hope that by the end of the week you feel overwhelmed with how much you mean to the Golden Eagle Family.
Parent and Family Calendar and Handbook
We are excited to welcome you as partners in your student’s journey at The University of Southern Mississippi! We know that you play an important role in your student’s success in college. It is our goal to provide you with information about the people, places and resources that are going to help you and your student transition to college at Southern Miss. Keep up to date with information pertinent to you and your student.
Parent and Family Programs Store
Display Southern Miss pride for your Golden Eagle! Browse through merchandise at the Parent and Family Programs Store. Proceeds for sales will be used to support the Southern Miss Parent and Family Association and future parent and family programming.
Parent and Family Weekend
Whether you are a local from the Hub City area, or from outside of south Mississippi, Parent and Family Weekend is a wonderful time to connect with your student in their new home, visit campus and the Hattiesburg community and experience life as a Golden Eagle.
Spring Family Day
Spring Family Day is a chance for families to visit, reconnect, and spend time with their student. South Mississippi is exceptionally beautiful in the spring, so visit the Hub City for family fun on campus and in Downtown Hattiesburg. Stay tuned for details regarding Spring Family Day 2023 coming soon!
The Seymour Scoop
The Seymour Scoop is an online webcast series designed to engage with families, in an effort to further enhance their knowledge of campus resources. The Seymour Scoop streams once a month via Facebook Live.
