Academic Advising
before you start
All School of Media and Communication students must meet with their adviser before registering for the upcoming semester.
Summer/Fall Advisement: Late February/Early March
Spring Advisement: Early October
find your adviser
Your assigned adviser is listed in SOAR under the Student Center.
If you do not have an adviser listed or would like to request a different adviser, contact the School of Media and Communication at 601.266.4258 or socFREEMississippi. Include a brief explanation of your request.
schedule your appointment
Your adviser will email you when it is time to schedule an appointment.
If you do not receive an email by early October for spring advisement or early March for summer/fall advisement, contact your adviser.
prepare for your appointment
Before your appointment:
- Complete the advising form.
- Prepare a tentative class schedule.
- Bring any questions you have about classes, majors or minors.
You can use the semester-by-semester guide for your major in the Academic Bulletin or the planner in SOAR to help plan your schedule.
Once you and your adviser finalize your schedule, your adviser will sign the advising form and send it to you. Send the signed form to Elizabeth Goff (rita.goffFREEMississippi) to have your advising hold lifted before registration.
change your major or minor
Major and minor changes are submitted through SOAR. There are separate forms for changing a major and changing a minor, and both require approval from the chair/director of the specific major or minor.
