World War II Archive Bequest--103d Infantry Division

103rd Archive Bequest

The University of Southern Mississippi is proud to house the 103d Infantry Division (Cactus) World War II Association’s document collection, memorabilia, books, and webpage.  The 103d Infantry Division (Cactus) was activation on November 15, 1942 and served in the Eastern Theater of World War II until their deactivation on September 22, 1945. The members of the 103d Infantry Division (Cactus) Association endeavor to honor the memory of all who were killed in action, wounded, and died since the end of World War II.

In 2015, veterans and members of the 103d Infantry Division (Cactus) World War II Association gathered in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for their reunion.  At this event, the Association formally donated their complete collection to the University of Southern Mississippi. The collection is now housed at the Special Collections Library at Southern Miss. This move was made possible, thanks to partnership with the Department of History and Dr. Kenneth Swope. For more information about the bequest see this news article.  The collection itself is located in the department of Special Collections at McCain Archive at Southern Miss, with a digital collection that is currently under production.  The finding aid to the collection is also available.
